Books

I was tagged by BridalBeer so I have no choice but to respond. Since I wanted to write about book anyways this works out really well.
Total Number of Books I Own: boxes and boxes, I don’t bother to unpack them anymore since I know I will be moving away at some point and I don’t wnat to re-pack them again. A few hundrend I would guess.
Last Book I Read: This is not fair since I am reading 4 books at the same time not because I smart or anything rather I was lazy and didn’t want to carry the book around with me so I ended up buying a different a book at whichever location I was in, now all the books are with me. The last book I finished was Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri
Last Book I Bought: Villa Incognito by Tom Robbins
Five Books That Mean A Lot To Me:
Spoiler warning:
1. D’Artagnan Romances: by Alexander Dumas (father) and I don’t mean the book you read in the US that ends with the diamond necklace being returned, rather the whole series. I still remember how each of them dies.
First Porthos dies holding up the cave roof while his friends escape. D’Artagnan remarks that the rockslide that buries him is a fitting gravestone for such a large man.
Athos is next, once he finds out that his son has died he can no longer go on. On a side note Athos exectues the mother of his son who also at one point slept with D’Artagnan.
D’Artagnan dies on the battle field just as a messanger gives him a letter making him the head of all french military.
Aramis doesn’t die but remarks that he is like a body without a soul with his friends dead so in a way he dies as well. Except that he doesn’t really die.
2. Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne, I fell in love with books reading the work of Jules Verne, Around the world in 80 days, 20,000 league under the sea, Mysterious Island. At a time where we were constatly moving because of the war Jules Verne took me away from Iran to a much more interesting place.
3. Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
An amazing writer whose writing made me realize you dont’ have to be a native speaker to be a good writer. English was his third language and as you read his book you realize how polished he is, every word carefuly crafted for maximum effect. Inspired me to write.
4. Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
Demonstrating the absurdity of war, how insane it is to kill someone to get them to see your side of things. A book that should be required reading for anyone who has ever thought of joining an army in any country.
5. Animal Farm by George Orwell
The first time I read this book in Persian in Iran I thought it was a funny book about talking animals. It wasn’t until 5 years later when we were living in Belgium and I re-read the book in French that I realized how similar the animal revolution was to the Iranian one. We are all equal but some are more equal.

Thanks for responding to the meme.
It’s amazing how much of ourselves is revealed (in a pleasant sort of way) by this
little blogging exercise.
this seems nothing short of blackmail to me. i didn’t get the memo about this “tagging.” no one called me, cnn didn’t report, no fax or email. i question the legality of said tagging. please refer to my lawyer solmaz (she doesn’t know it but she’s working pro bono for me) with any further inquiries.
i’ll actually get on this tonight
BB very true, but I think bloggers usualy have a bigger list compared to regular people.
