I’ve started a new job today and I’ve been really busy with the move combined with the new job. By the end of the month it should all be done hopefully
“In the Top 50, Iran show how it is done as they move up 7 slots to claim their best ever ranking, taking 24th place. Undoubtedly helpful in this endeavour was their 3-1 win over Qatar in the FIFA World Cup? qualifying match on 18 February.”

The Legofish:
This place recently burned down and was rebuilt even better. The chef not only cooks but also paints so make sure you check out the gallery. A great late night place where you can listen to chill sounds and order delicious snacks.
This is the song i’ve been singing my whole life:
This Thai place serves up spicy food at all hours of the day and night. At times the dishes are made for specific people but that doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy them as well.
Musing over the ontological status of a boiled egg:
Also our favorite Pizza joint is back. Looks like the chef just wanted to take a long vacation.
Iraniantruth:
For some serious persian food this is the spot that everyone goes to. They have 3 chefs working so the food will vary from chef to chef but you’ll love every dish and on the plus side you will see a lot of other chefs eating here as well.

The first comic that I ever saw was not Tintin, rather it was some sort of school publication that had Rostam (Persian version of Hercules) and some Disney characters in it. I remember that it cost 2 tomans to buy a copy. At the time I was the only one in the class who could read and I charged a few of my friends for reading the stories out loud. It wasn’t until I visited my moms family in Tehran that I discovered Tintin and fell in love with the bright colors and the incredible stories from far away lands.
My dad on the other hand hated Tintin, the more I loved Tintin the more he hated it. I don’t know why he hated Tintin that much maybe because I spent so much time reading and re-reading the few Tintin comics that I had. To this day I don’t think I’ve forgiven him for ripping one of the comics and throwing it away. I remember I did something really bad to deserve that, something along the lines of trying to set a tree on fire or something. I spent a lot of time burning things back then but still nothing could justify ripping a Tintin comic. Ironically enough we moved to Belgium a few years later the homeland of Tintin. Maybe it was God taking my side in the debate. For some reason he had nothing against Asterix which I also owned.
In Belgium I discovered Elfquest and realized there were a lot of other comics out there but a lack of funds and a language barrier stopped me from following up on my desire to collect comics.
College of course changed that, during my sophomore year I was walking down college ave and noticed a comic store. I walked in and like a kid in a comic store I couldn’t have been happier. I collected comics for about a year until I finally decided to kick my 20$ a week habit and go cold turkey. I’ve managed to keep away from buying comics since then but I now get my fix in another way.
Last night walking in downtown Sausalito I walked into a novelty store with the girlfriend. It had a series of fun nostalgic stuff and as I rounded up a corner an entire wall dedicated to Tintin. I started to pick up a copy of every single issue and was going to buy all 15 separate books when I realized they felt different. The farsi Tintin had a hard cover and was made with heavy paper. This had a soft cover and glossy pages. I decided to instead get the collected 3 in 1 books. I am now the proud owner of 5 of those books. They do not in any way shape or form replace my old collection which my mom gave away to other kids years ago but they do remind me of back home.
I’ve seen other Iranians with Tintin collections and posters and I don’t think it’s so much Tintin that they are collecting as it is a reminder of home. A place where you fit in perfectly, where everyone looks exactly like you, people don’t mispronounce your name or ask you where you are from. A reminder of childhood and easier times. Collecting the comic is like collecting those happy memories.
Of course after buying all the comics I talked to mom and asked her if she could buy a set when she goes back home in a few weeks. Who knows I might still end up with a complete collection of the hardcover farsi Tintin. Now won’t that be something ?
This important questions is answered here. Now when you watch the cheerleading challenge on espn2 when nothing else is on TV and you know some team from Texas is going to win you can tell your girlfriend you are watching sports.
My favorite part of the article:
“Yeah, it’s a little weird at first, the first day you meet these guys and they are immediately working with you and touching you. But before you know it, they’re like your brothers. You know when they are holding you up there, they’re not thinking, ‘Oh yeah, look at her butt. ‘They’re thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, don’t drop her.’
“Well,” Swanson says with a laugh, “except for maybe Austin.” I read that as Asad the first time.
And before I get any hate mail save it up for Mary who wrote the article.
Unrelated tonight is Chahar Shanbeh Suri. Have fun setting fire to something I know I will.
Iranians today still carry out the spring-cleaning and set up bon fires for only one night on the last Tuesday of the year. Young and old will leap over the fires with songs and gestures of merriment.
A word a day was my first email subscription in 98. If you like the english language or enjoy words in general I suggest you check them out.
