the main course

A new reality show on FOX started today. The show revolves around a set of animals who have to survive a day with the contestant, for every animal that the contestant manages to cook and eat he/she will get 10,000$.
I wasn’t quiet sure how the show would work, the room was dark I knew I had to eat these animals but what were they. They turned on the light and there they were and they looked like a mean bunch. The green iguana looked with beady little eyes from the corner, the panda bear slowly chewed its leaf and the monkey looked well armd with poop. And last but not least the ostrich. How the heck was I going to take that down.
The iguana was going down first. That was a bad mistake, who knew they had such sharp claws. Half an hour later the animals were all safe and the damn iguana had some of my skin. This was going to require more planning…

From the first moment that I saw you I wanted you. Our eyes locked and I could not look away from your black liquid eyes. You were framed in the dying evening light and your hair looked as if it was aflame. I gently lead you from the others and you seemed happy to be with me.
As I watched you eat with delicate movement I could not help but admire your bright smile. I ran my hands through your hair for one last time before saying good bye.
You looked at me with those gorgeous eyes one last time before the verses were said, you were laid on the ground.
The fire was already burning, the butcher was here and I was hungry. The rice was nearly ready and it would just be a few more moments before the kebabs would be cooked. I love buying my own meat fresh off the market. I’ll miss that little white lamb though.

want to get married ? go to Iran

Posted by asad | General | Thursday 21 August 2003 7:38 am

From this blog:
Persian version of BBC has recently presented a report about loss of equilibrium between the population of young boys and girls and the consequences of it in Iran.I’ve translated it :

IYNA,Iran Youth National Association, that is a presidential one, announced on Friday Aug. 15th,that according to the most recent statistical researches, 1,250,000 girls between 20 to 29 would remain unmarried.
ILNA,Iran Labor News Agency, has reported that on the basis of the research which has been done by IYNA,the number of girls between 20 to 29 has been considered about 6,200,000 and that of boys between 25 to 34 has been considered 4,800,000 and that’s this statistical difference which has caused some worriers for young girls concerning remaining unmarried.
In this research, the number of girls has been considered in 2 age groups of 20-24 and 25-29 and that of boys has been considered in 2 age groups 25-29 and 30-34,too.Considering this fact that boys mostly tend to marry girls in younger age groups ( than themselves ),it’s been cocluded that 1,250,000 girls won’t have any chance to get married.
But apparantly, the probability of remaining unmarried for 1,250,000 girls is not the only worrier of Iranian authorities ,since it’s written in this report that ” if we add the number of the girls older than 29 who’ve not got married yet,to the number of this research,we may reach to a figure about 7 million people. ”
A while ago Zahra Shojayi, president’s consultant and the head of Women’s Contribution Affairs Center, had warned about the crisis of unmarried girls by saying that “even if all boys marry all girls, there will be still 1,700,000 girls unmarried.”
Experts relate the appearance of this phenomenon with the 8-year war between Iran and Iraq in which about a million young boys were killed. ILNA has quoted from Dr.Ali Asghar Dadkhah, psychiatrist and university professor, that the appearance of this phenomenon is normal after every war.
In addition with the high number of the killed, the war between Iran and Iraq resulted in a wave of emigration of the young, specially young boys that helped in the change of the population situation of boys.
The wave of the emigration that had been initiated before the beginning of the war ( due to occurance of the islamic revolution and emigration of the people who didn’t tend to live in the conditions of after revolution ) didn’t come to an end with the war getting over and according to the statistics, has always been on increase.
Experts say that the young who’re in the age group of 20-under 40 and are single, conform the most number of the emigres and as well, boys go abroad in hope of finding new fields of work and life more than girls.

I think it’s about time I go visit mom and dad ;)

So I’ve finally updated the links to have direct links to Tina and Wenyu in addition to Sepi who kindly mentions me in her post. My response for the Iranian.com is not coming along well, I wrote 3 paragraphs and then got totally bored so much for activism. I am also working on a new story part for the Koala bear I haven’t done much with him but hopefully he’ll do something very interesting soon. On the subjects of tractors I have to say all large mechanical farm machines rock, even bulldozers rock. My dad has a picture of me age 5 in the hands of a farm worker driving a bulldozer ahhh the good old days.

is an online dvd rental place that I use and like a lot. They also have a discussion board where you can talk to other members and play some trivia games. They are based in San Francisco and recently had an anniversary party sort of a thing. Here are some pics from that night. My favorite is the action shot.

phoenix

Posted by asad | General | Thursday 14 August 2003 9:20 am

it’s good to be back home after 2 days in the desert. It was a totally unplanned trip but hey sometimes it works out that way. By the way southwest airlines rocks I changed my flight twice and it was no big deal to them. So I flew into Phoenix on Tuesday thinking I’d be back that same day unfortunately I had some unplanned events. Not having brought anything me and my co-worker decided to go shopping of course he decides Nordstrom is a good idea. 800 later he still hasn’t bought anything to wear the next day and in fact has most of his stuff shipped to him in LA while I spent a mere 80 on a nice Hawaiian shirt for going out that night.
Of course now you think what do you do on a Tuesday night ? Well you get really big bottles of coronas and race gold fish. Yes that’s right goldfish, you get a goldfish and go head to head with someone else in a race, you can encourage your fish to go faster with a squirt gun. It turns out that the fish really doesn’t care about the gun it’s more the shadow of your hand that makes it run faster. After losing 20$ to my coworker and 4 giant coronas later (about 8 regular ones and one or two shots as well) we head over to another bar and finish up the night with some tequila. here comes the problem my co-worker decides to go for jack in the box and makes a sharp turn at which point the fries I had earlier decide to come up for a visit right in the car.
Did I mention that I had no pants for the next day ? So I had to wash my pants in the sink thank god for the AZ heat which dried them out pretty fast. I had never missed my bed that much.
Oh and watch this space for a response to this crap. I am so sick and tired of seeing my countrymen whine and bitch about how everything wrong with Iran is the fault of someone else. It’s as if there’s no one living in Iran and everything has somehow magically happened.

Is a good thing, every once in a while you need to go do something for the heck of it. I decided to go hiking in Big Basin park on Saturday. I did this hike and it took me about 3 hours, which I was pretty happy with, except for the soreness today. Except for the insane number of Japanese tourists on the trail it was an excellent hike.
