spider city

Posted by asad | Stories | Monday 26 May 2003 3:36 pm

Today was the end of the Spider City. It had a good run but even the inhabitants knew that it had to happen. Ever since I moved into my apartment I had a deal with the spiders. At first they were annihilated on sight, none were allowed to live.
One dark and stormy night, a centipede bit me. It left a huge weld. It was too fast for me to catch until three days later, I saw it dead on a spider web. The spiders had sacrificed the centipede as an offering to me. I decided to accept their offering and allow them to live. This worked out beautifully for a few months. The spiders built a city on my patio and we all lived harmoniously. Occasionally, I would kill a few of the spiders to set an example to the others. And in time, the spiders built a small statue to me in their town. This town was known to other spiders far and wide as a peaceful place but last night Spider City was doomed. Maybe I killed one too many, I am not sure what the reason was but one of the spiders bit me. The other spiders killed it to appease me but I had no choice, I had to use the broom. It was swift and painless. But still to destroy a city is not a decision one should take lightly. I look upon their broken civilization and wonder…It’s not being easy being a god to spiders.

spinach

There it was, just sitting comfortably, looking at me as if I was beneath it. I don’t know why it has always been that way between us. It was barely contained in a tight rubber band, its body heaving against the constraints. So green and leafy, the spinach looked at me like the prom queen looking at some gangly geek from the chess club. Well no more, I firmly grabbed a bunch and thrust them into my basket. The look of shock on its green leafy face was priceless, it had beautiful large leaves. It looked at me with reproach but I was not to be denied. I walked nonchalantly towards the check out counter. The blond girl behind the counter looked at me incredulously, “are you sure you want to buy that sir ?” her entire body radiated disapproval. But that was ok, the ride home was quiet and uneventful. With a bit of shame I thrust the spinach in the fridge and closed the door quickly. For the next 3 days I ignored it, I knew it was there and it knew I was outside. We counted the days in our own way. On Sunday I took it out, took a deep breath and cut open the rubber band. It simply fell apart, but now I could see little bits of dirt that were hidden beneath. It no longer looked like an icy queen with the dirt revealed it was the same as any other vegetable. I roughly grabbed a few leaves washed them and cut off the stem, now it appeared sad and defeated. I put it in the microwave for 25 seconds; rough chopped it and threw it in my egg omelet. I had conquered spinach. It was a good Sunday.

Dog punting

Posted by asad | General | Tuesday 13 May 2003 12:48 pm

Our society needs a new sport, something that will get you excited about. Enough about football and basketball. We need something new, something better. The idea came to me while watching FOX. They had a Miss Dog contest. Apparently we have too many small dogs in our society. I thought about it a bit more and came up with the idea of using these dogs in a new sport called “dog punting”. In dog punting the object is to punt a small dog preferably one that has been shopping here. You get points for distance, air time and artistic interpetation. Now that could be the number of rotations that you get from the dog or the sound it makes as it gracefuly sails through the air. I am hoping that this will soon be an olympic sports.

It’s hard to get motivated to post in here all the time, I had a lot more fun just looking at the technology than I do actually writing here. I have to find a way to also add a spell checker to this thing. I know what the next big entry for this thing is going to be already I just have to get motivated to write it. It was an interesting journey to find and write about blog software and that’s what I am going to write about. What is blogging, what kind of software there is to do this and also what are some of the security concerns you have to have. I am not a big security person but really some of the programs out there are designed with no security in them. Also there’s going to be some porn added as well as a video or two.

The site is coming along nicely, I am finding out all the newbie problems that you will run into for example unless you have a blog description the title of the blog doesn’t look right. Security is still horrendous which is why I am going to have to create a backup method for the entire site. I alo took out the search functionality, I really don’t think people need to search this site, if I co change my mind however I’ll probably spend way too much time finding a good search program.

Sorry slugie

What happed was that once I really started to dig into greymatter I found out that dev work on it had really slowed down, it had security holes a 5 year old could drive a truck through. These guys are a bit more active and it’s still free, I couldn’t get away completely from the security and database problems but at least these guys seems to be more aware of them. I’ll be working on making the site more secure, don’t worry I still have all the old stuff saved up and maybe at some point I’ll migrate them over.

Had to change from greymatter

It had giant security issues, I am still not very happy with this whole thing, why is it that bloggers need 777 everywhere. At least moveable types doesn’t keep my password in clear text. Sorry slugie I didn’t mean to lose your comment but I had to make the change early on.
